A shadow of my former self

Well what a weekend!! Had a really good one. Friday night i went over to Pete's house to work on the invite for his 40th birthday party in November. The invite is going to look fabulous, cant wait for November! What with mine and olivers 30th birthday party and petes 40th it is gonna be a hell of a party month.

Saturday was quite a lazy day, did quite a lot of practical shopping and washing for my holiday this week. Went out saturday night in East London, Met Pete in Hoxton. Never really been sure if i like that area, its all bit too arty farty and pretentious but there were quite a few cute boys out and really thats all that matters!

Sunday a few of us went out to celebrate my mate kazzie finishing her university work, Had a gorge brunch with some lovely lezzers in islington and then proceeded to drink our way to the "George and Dragon" - never been before but was great, really random 80's music! Saw the director of my department which was scary, its never good to see senior colleagues when you are quite frankly "mashed up!". I just told him to ignore me and then nearly fell over.

Yesterday was quite a lazy day, Met up with many mates in the "White Hart" in Stoke Newington, Was really nice to recover from a big night out by just catching up and laughing loads.

Well today is my last day at work for a while cos on thursday me and oliver are flying out to Gran Canaria for a week of frivolity and fun!! I really really cant wait! Work has been really hectic lately and the thought of sunning myself by the pool is just heavenly!

I shall try to update you all on the holiday goings on but dont worry my lovelies, every little detail will be shared once i get back!

take care my pretties

I never thought i would say this!!

Many, many years ago a young gay man travelled down to London for his 1st gay pride experience. Having had a fantastic day of shouting at expressionless police officers and cardigan wearing christians, he needed to drink and dance the night away, it was that night that he happened upon a club called G-A-Y. Heading up onto the balcony to see hundreds of gay men dancing to "Like a Prayer" was truly a religious experience and one he will savour for a long time.

that young gay man was me! bet ya didnt see that one comin - funnily enough a man said that to me in the toilets that same night!

Now that i am approaching 30 and living in London, my view of the club has changed greatly and now whenever it is mentioned i pull a cringe face and immediately slag it off for being like a dirty youth club.

I am really fooling myself, Although it may not be to everyones tastes, although it may need a good wash, there is only one club in London where you can see acts like Mariah, Christina, Kylie and of course Madonna!! It may be a bit of a hole but its a bargian night out and many laughs and bad shags have been had there.

Due to the ongoing development of good old London there are plans to knock the Astoria club (where G-A-Y is held) down in time for the olympics in 2012, not only will London be losing a massive gay might but also a great live music venue!!

Sign the petition to save the astoria by following this link,

otherwise Londons streets will be riddled with teeny queens with peroxide hair and "barbie is a slut" crop tops! and lets face it no one wants to see that.

p.s i see that my dear friend Oliver has commented on my blog, i would love more comments as long as they are all positive and complimentary!!

pps - check this guy out he is really really offensive and i love him

hope all my lovelies have a gorge bank holiday, i will be drinking myself silly in preperation for my holiday next week, so hold back my hair honeys cos i is honna be wretching!

Back to reality?

Well i know i am a bit slow on the uptake but finally Big Brother is over!! Even though i may have whooped, clapped and screamed at the final night, this is the 1st year that i have not watched it religiously. This has left me in a very strange and eye opening place.

I felt left out of conversations, people kept saying all the housemates catchphrases and i would not have a clue! I am not complaning after all i raised myself to a higher level and stopped watching reality tv. I truly believe that it is killing talent! I remember the days when tv was full of great comedies, tense dramas and the top 40 was full of great acts.

Even when tv is not splattered with reality durge it still aint that good. Staying at my parents this weekend i was almost forced to watch one of their favourite sitcoms "Last of the Summer Wine" - it has to be the most predictable programme ever televised! I am not sure if it still features the same storyline as it used to but the general way it ran was -

3 old blokes (one cheeky, one shy and one brainy) walking down a lane, stopping off for a cup of tea, cheeky man hits on woman behind counter, woman hits him on head with tray, they run out to go and see some old bag, she hits them with a broom, they then come up with a "whacky" idea that involves speeding down a hill on something with wheels, whilst all this is going on some old coffin dodger and his younger (60 yrs old) mistress are getting jiggy in a field. the women of the village (all 3 of them) go out for a cup of tea on a bench and as the 3 men go hurtling past they all tut, the men fly over a wall and land on coffin dodger groping the peroxide bus pass wielder.

laughing yet?

and what the hell is going on with the charts?? the amount of great acts that are dropped just because they dont make the top 5 is ridic!! Poor shayne ward from last years x factor does in fact have talent but they have just given him "middle of the road" bilge to sing. Simon Cowell is a joke, Louis Walsh just goes after the cute boys (not that he is homosexual!) and Sharon Osborne just throws water over anyone who disagrees with her and is shafting a man who is barely alive! what do they know??

Thank god for acts like Madonna, Justin Timberlake, Christina, Beyonce and our very own Jamelia (i predict big things for that brum mum this year!) they are all producing great classic pop music.

Fab indie bands like hard fi, the editors and razorlight who are putting a lil bit of variety in the charts.

So there is hope for talent to shine. i just wish that people who go on big brother could realise that they aint talented and at the end of the day you cant polish a turd. Giving that scrawny, screaming, spolit vile little brat pig nikki her own show is yet another deluded mistake by tv exec's, of course it may be a runaway success and if it is that is exactly what i will be doing - running away! hiding under the duvet and praying that in the next series of big brother they keep the doors locked and throw a serial killer in there

Motherf*ckin Snakes, Motherf*ckin Planes!

I could not resist it any longer, I had lasted the weekend but temptation got the better of me!! last night i went to see "Snakes on a Plane" - and i can highly recommend it, as long as you are expecting to laugh yourself silly and applaud the sheer sillyness of it all. It's been a long time since i have heard people clap with delight in a cinema but the audience last night lapped it up! I went with my lovely friend Dan who i had not seen in a while, seeing a film is not the best thing to do when you need a catch up, drinks a plenty must be had soon!

Get these motherf*ckin people out of my mother f*ckin way!!

I guess the main reason why this blog is called pippys rants is because if i was on the bbc show "Room 101" i could be on it for an entire series! Todays rant is about stupid people. A lot of my rants will be about stupid people simply because the world seems to have far too many of them wandering around.

Every morning when i get off my train at kings cross to make my short journey on foot to work, i am confronted with tourists, leaving or arriving our great capital. I dont know if it's just me but when i am travelling somewhere i tend to have my tube and train tickets ready, i am aware that there will be other people around me in a rush and therefore will try and be as thoughtful as possible.

Little things like not fiddling with my case at the top of the stairs or starting to look for my ticket right in front of the ticket barrier or just stopping dead in the middle of the pavement to text someone. I am not asking everyone to practice what i preach, i just think that maybe people could try and be a bit more aware of what is going on around them, too much to ask?

Maybe if they were more considerate, that morning cigarette would not be necessary and i would not feel the need to run around the streets stabbing people with pencils.

kisses

it aint grim up north and it aint that bad down south!

Well goodness me, my first ever blog entry, i am leaping into the 2000's and no one can stop me! I have a few mates who have recently set these up and it has been sadly fascinating for me to have a glimpse into their minds.

I have just got back from a long weekend back at home in sheffield. After living in London for just 4 years, the opportunity to escape is always a good option, add to that the fact that i get to see loads of very good friends and my lovely family and its a winner.

The main reason for visiting this weekend was to pop along to my friend ian's 30th birthday! That was on the saturday so i travelled on the friday in order to see the gays in sheffield city centre, had such a lovely evening with dan, danny, ben and elliott. Great food and plenty of alcohol and cackling accompanied the car crash tv that was the final (thank god) of big brother 7. we all booed everytime dis-grace came on the tv and cheered when pete won.

After all that excitement most would have gone for a lie down in a darkened room but we had to go out, so off we trolled to dempseys (a gay bar that has to be seen to be believed), its all a bit retro in design but the beer is cheap and the music is nothing if not varied.

Saturday morning was a haze of hangovers and regrets but i had no time to feel sorry for myself, i was being picked up at the station so packed my superman pants and went on my way. Popped in briefly to see my ma and pa who were lovely as always but again it was a flying visit as i needed to get to the party via the off licence with token chavs drinking cider outside - not even magners!!

The party was not the important aspect of the day, it was seeing so many people that i have not seen for too long, including my lovely emma who is preggers at the mo and is expecting a baby boy just one week before i turn 30! she looked beautiful and very smiley.

A grand night of laughter and drinking was had by all, random party games followed and i discovered that bacardi breezers are surprisingly tasty! that charlotte church aint that stupid after all!!

Anyways am back now in London. Even though i loved going back home for a few days and seeing the true countryside, a smile did flit across my face as i saw the "welcome to london" sign from the train.

Sheffield is a great place and the small town where i grew up is surrounded by beautiful land but London is my home now. the people i have met since moving here and the people that have moved here since are some of the best people i have ever met. They have made what could have been a very difficult time, truly wonderful.

I guess no matter where i am, i know that as long as these people are in my life in sheffield, london or wherever - i will be happy.
