Just as there is one gay victory on one side of the pond, over here things are quite different. You may remember in August last year I mentioned the brutal and homophobic murder of 18 year old young gay man, Michael Causer in Liverpool. The trial has been happening over the last few weeks and has focused on the 3 young men accused of playing a part in Michael's murder. James O'Connor has admitted to murdering Causer and will be sentenced later this month. However, on friday, Gavin Alker (18) was found not guilty of murder or manslaughter. Witnesses stated that they saw Alker punching and kicking Causer in the head, Causer was then attacked further and left for dead in the street. He died several days later after failed attempts to reduce swelling on his brain.

I am not a legal expert but how a jury can manage to find someone not guilty after testimonies were heard saying that the accused was seen kicking Causer in the head is beyond me.

Alker is now walking the streets of Liverpool a free man, Causer's family and friends organised a protest yesterday against the ridiculous verdict and continue to fight for justice
