Rediscovering the indie pippy

Truth be told I have always been an indie boy at heart and although I do like Madonna and the occasional bit of diva action, it's the floppy haired lead singers and big armed drummers that get me going. I guess it all started with a more mainstream band by the name of U2, it was November 1991 and I was the tender age of 15 when I heard the first single from U2's new album "Achtung baby" the song was called "The Fly" and the wall of guitar sound seduced me into a whole new world. That particular album remains one of my all time favourites.

The rest is history and last night I delved into that history by finding a bag of old tapes! who the hell has tapes these days eh? amongst them were many of the usual ones you would expect from any self respecting indie type - Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Blur, Oasis, Suede, The Smiths, Stone Roses, Manic's etc but there were also a few more random ones, if you remember any of these we would probably get on famously - Sugar, The House of Love, Kingmaker, The Frank and Walters and at last I managed to find a cd I had lost for 2 years!! by the band Gene, the album is called Olympian and it was the soundtrack to 1995 for me, the lead singer was a bit gay, the lyrics were great and it was all a bit depressing - what more could you want. If you have not heard this album I suggest getting on amazon and purchasing immediately, it stands the test of time!
